Published by dreadpiraterose at 4:34 am under Convention News Blurbs Edit This

I have a quick set of convention news blurbs to share before I head out for some much needed vacation time. That’s right, Convention Fans will be taking a break for Thanksgiving. You can expect new entries beginning Monday.

This edition of Convention News Blurbs include links to stories about Road Warrior Weekend, a brand new Invader Zim convention, and more.  As always, if you have convention news to share, please feel free to send us a link or a press release. We’re always happy to share news about conventions!

1. Liz Ohanesian Ventures Out to Road Warrior Weekend

If you read my blog regularly, you know I’m a big fan of LA Weekly’s Liz Ohanesian. This past weekend she headed out to Road Warrior Weekend, which she described to me as “a cross between a fandom convention and Burning Man, all based on Mad Max.” She also said that “it was the craziest, most exciting fan event I’ve seen yet.” Below are links to her coverage of the event. Be sure to check it out!

2. Green Mustard Entertainment Announces InvaderCON

My friends over at Green Mustard Entertainment recently went public with their plans to host InvaderCON, a convention dedicated to the cartoon Invader Zim. The convention is still in the “early planning stages” for an epic ten year reunion fan convention. As of right now, the only “public” details are that the event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia and will be scheduled somewhere around the end of March 2011.

3. Monkees Mini-reunion Features Beatle Talk and Fab Four songs at Boston Area Celeb Convention

I’m a fan of the Monkees, and I think it’s kind of cool to see some former members cropping up at fandom conventions. Apparently Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork recently appeared at Boston Super MegaFest and jammed a bit for the crowds. Also at the convention was James Marsters, Brent Spiner, Richard Anderson, Vincent Pastore, Terry Sylvester, and more. You can read more about it over at examiner.com.

4. WoW.com Reports on IgroMir 2009

WoW.com, the source for all things World of Warcraft, recently wrote an article about IgroMir 2009 - a massive gaming convention in Russia. The convention featured new footage of new game play from the upcoming WoW expansion, Cataclysm. Apparently video of said game play was posted on YouTube, but as WoW.com warns, don’t expect it to stay up forever. Visit WoW.com for more.
