Starbase Indy 2009: Your Mid-West Fan Run Sci-Fi Convention

Published by dreadpiraterose at 4:18 am under Upcoming Conventions Edit This

Starbase Indy LogoWhen you hear “Starbase Indy,” positive thoughts don’t always come to mind. The convention has, admittedly, had a rough couple of years. Originally, 2007 was set to be the last Starbase Indy convention. In what is now a bit of bad sci-fi convention history, another convention promoter (Vulkon) promised to run the 2008 convention, but pulled out just two weeks before the event took place.

Well, fans pulled together and decided to hold a one-day fan event for those who already had made plans to attend the convention. Starbase Indy originally did not have plans to come back for 2009. But now, fueled by the excitement and success of the new Star Trek film, Starbase Indy is officially back for 2009.

Starbase Indy 2009 is being held November 27 - 29, 2009 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Guests for Starbase Indy 2009 include Garrett Wang, William Morgan Sheppard, Jeff Rector, David Reddick, and Debra “Downey” Lyons.

Events for this convention include panels on Paranormal Romance; Designing Superhero, Star Wars and Doctor Who figures; building robots, Yoga for Geeks, Making Lightweight Armour; and more. There will also be a Masquerade, gaming, a “Critter Course Competition,” and of course, Q&As with the celebrity guests.

Memberships can be purchased online or at the door. If you pre-register, a weekend badge is $25.00. That price goes up to $35.00 at the door. Children 12 and under can attend for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
