A Summary of the Numerous World of Warcraft Announcements at BlizzCon 2009
If you’re a hard core World of Warcraft player, then you were probably glued to the minute-by-minute coverage of BlizzCon 2009 that sites like WoW.com had to offer. However, if you’re a casual player like me, then digging through six or seven pages worth of articles is probably not something you’re interested in. Well, never fear casual Warcraft player, for Convention Fans is here for you.
The first big announcement was that a new expansion, called World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is slated for a 2010 release. Included in this expansion will be two new playable races: Goblin (Horde) and Worgen (Alliance). As a Horde player, I couldn’t really care less about being able to play a Goblin, but the Worgen may be cool enough to bring me over to the Alliance. You see, you can transfer from human to werewolf (see the video below to watch it for yourself)! Very cool. In addition to the two new races, there will be numerous new class combinations as well.

The world of Azeroth will be undergoing big changes in the future. There will be new starting zones for the new races, but all of the zones will see changes. Essentially, questing will be a brand new experience. Another big change is that flight will now be permitted in “vanilla WoW” zones. This is something players have been asking about for a long time now, and it is definitely one of the changes I am excited about as a casual player.
Some of the other changes include cross-server instances, a new secondary profession, rated battlegrounds and arena points from wins, and plenty of class changes and shake ups.
As for the not-to-be-missed BlizzCon events, you should absolutely check out the videos for the costume contests and dance/soundalike contests. WoW.com has videos on both: BlizzCon 2009: Dance and soundalike contest videos and BlizzCon 2009: Costume contest video. These are definitely two of the best parts of the convention for me personally, and certainly entertaining.
Of course, if you do want all the nitty gritty details on the various changes, head on over to WoW.com. They’ve got it all covered. I do hope to have some first hand reports from Convention Fans readers that attended the convention posted at some point, so check back later in the week for that!
