World Fantasy Convention 2009 - Celebrating Edgar Allan Poe’s 200th Birthday
If you’re in the San José area, or just a really big fan of Edger Allan Poe, then you may want to check out World Fantasy Convention 2009. This con is taking place October 29 - November 1, 2009 at the The Fairmont Hotel in San José, California. And this year, the convention is celebrating Edger Allan Poe’s 200th birthday!
Guests for World Fantasy Convention 2009 include: Garth Nix, Lisa Snellings, Michael Swanwick, Ann VanderMeer, Jeff VanderMeer, Donald Sidney-Fryer, Richard A. Lupoff, and Jay Lake as the toastmaster.
As for buying tickets, well, according to the website you “must register as an Attending member of the convention. [They] do not sell ‘tickets’ to the convention — you become a ‘member’ of the convention.”
Got it.
So how much are memberships for World Fantasy Convention 2009? Attending memberships are $125 through August 31, 2009 and will be $150 thereafter. There are no single day memberships, and there is a membership cap (which isn’t listed).
The convention will feature panel discussions, presentations, autographs from guests, an art show and reception, and the World Fantasy Awards ceremony and banquet. A full schedule should be available sometime in September.
If you wish to stay at the hosting hotel, the room rates begin at $130/night for one or two people. Please visit the convention’s Hotel Information Page for additional rates and info.
If you attend World Fantasy Convention 2009, be sure to post a comment with links to your convention reports, photos, and/or videos!
