Back in March, I posted an announcement that the ConGlomeration 2009 convention had been put on hold. Marsha White, who serves as the Director of Volunteers for the convention, recently posted a follow up comment to my original article. I am reposting it here so more people can see it and get the latest information on this convention. Please see below.

My name is Marsha White. I’m also known as Mags. I’m on the ConComm for Conglomeration, serving in the role of Director of Volunteers. I’m helping get the word out that Conglomeration is returning in April 2010. I came across your thread in a Google search, and I hope you don’t mind me posting here.
Here’s the quick and dirty version of what prompted cancellation of the convention in 2009:
The Clarion Hotel on Hurstbourne in Louisville, which had been the convention hotel for a few years, closed unexpectedly. Why did the hotel close? The Clarion, along with fifteen other hotels, has been sold to Kronos Hotels and Resorts in 2007. After the sale, things at the hotel rapidly went to shite, with employees going unpaid and a fire that resulted in widespread damage. Kronos management, not to put too fine a point on it, could not get their act together, so Clarion finally pulled their franchise license, presumably in disgust.

This weekend, I began the arduous task of packing for Dragon*con. We’re leaving in the wee hours of Thursday morning, and since my significant other and I both work during the day, Sunday was pretty much our last full day to finish getting everything together. And yes, we’re actually driving from Philly to Atlanta.
Pirate costumes had to be washed and ironed. World of Warcraft shirts had to be located. Our precious highlighted pocket program print outs had to be secured. When you’re traveling almost 12 hours to attend a convention, you can wind up with a pretty extensive packing list. And since this is a conventions blog, I’m going to share with you what’s on my Dragon*con 2009 packing list.
Note: This is list is somewhat geared towards Dragon*con specifically, but it can easily be adapted to any convention for which a hotel stay is required. If you’re trying to decide if a large convention like Dragon*con is for you, be sure to check out my articles on the Pros and Cons of attending a large convention.

This is reposted from an announcement originally posted to the Dragon*con Livejournal Community:
A few panels have been changed around and I know everyone is trying to plan out their weekend so I thought I’d share. I’m just copying the Trek Trek Booster Club notice from Mr. Watts, the Director of Star Trek Programming:
“I have just been informed of the following changes to the TrekTrak schedule.
Leonard Nimoy has cancelled his 4:00 p.m. Saturday panel, “TrekTrak Presents Mr. Spock: Leonard Nimoy” and will appear instead at the Dragon*Con Awards Banquet Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. He is still scheduled for his 10:00 a.m. Friday panel with William Shatner in the Marriott Marquis Ballroom as well as a 10:00 a.m. Sunday panel on Main Programming called “Leonard Nimoy: Beyond Spock.”

I normally don’t post on weekends, but this is just too good to hold off on until Monday! TwiCon, the convention that left numerous attendees unhappy and feeling ripped off, has decided to bad mouth Twilight convention competitor Creation Entertainment on the TwiCon forums. And this posting did NOT go unnoticed by Creation Entertainment. (As you may recall, Creation just recently announced that they have partnered with Summit to be the “official” provider of Twilight conventions.)
Now, just to be clear, I’m not a fan of Creation Entertainment (shock of shocks, I know). I don’t attend their conventions, because I happen to not like the way they run things. That being said, I also have nothing nice to say about TwiCon and the way they run things either.
Basically, I am highly amused that these two corporations have decided to have a verbal altercation on TwiCon’s forums for all of their fans/attendees/customers/guests to see. It seems completely unprofessional and not a terribly smart way to conduct their affairs.
I’m going to link to the thread, but just in case someone has poster’s remorse and decides to delete the original, I am posting the entirety of the two comments below. Go ahead and read it for yourself, and post a comment with YOUR thoughts on this TwiCon/Creation internet fight.
