Anticipation, the 67th Worldcon / Anticipation, la 67e Worldcon
This posting is dedicated to all of my Canadian readers! The 67th annual Worldcon convention is happening August 6th - 10th, 2009 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal in Montréal, Quebec, Canada.
Worldcon (for those who may not know), is is an annual convention put on by the World Science Fiction Society. Every year it is held in a different location. Not only is it a famous science fiction convention, but it is also host to the Hugo Awards. Here’s a little fun fact: Worldcons have been held every year since 1939 (with a few years off for World War II)!
The guest list for the 2009 Worldcon include: Neil Gaiman, Élisabeth Vonarburg, Taral Wayne, Tom Doherty, David Hartwell, and Julie Czerneda.
Some of the events for the 2009 Worldcon will be a Masquerade, the Huga Awards, dances, panel discussions, workshops, exhibits, and more!
There are two nice features of this con that I’d like to point out. First, they offer childcare. Prices for this service vary depending on the age of the child. Attendees intending to use this service should contact the convention as soon as possible. Secondly, the convention actually provides scooters and wheelchairs for rent. Again, attendees intending to use this service should contact the con in advance to determine availability and pricing.
Ticket prices vary, and because the convention is in Canada, all rates are based on the Canadian dollar exchange rate. These rates are only good until July 15th. Because of the complex nature of it all, I recommended going to the official website, and reading about it yourself.
Worldcon is run by volunteers, and if you’d like to be involved, there is an online form you can submit. There is no information on the website about whether compensation is involved, in terms of free entry or lodging. Please contact the convention for more info.
