Published by dreadpiraterose at 4:24 am under Convention News Blurbs Edit This

Anime Expo 2009 Cosplayers (photo by Shannon Cottrell, LA Weekly)Hello con-goers! I’ve got more great convention news and articles to share with you all this morning. Before I get started, I want to thank Liz Ohanesian for sending me links to her great coverage of Anime Expo, and for showing me these wonderful Anime Expo photos from Shannon Cottrell (that’s one of hers to the right). Both of these ladies write for the LA Weekly, and do a great job of covering anime and pop culture events.

Anyway, this posting will cover all of Liz’s Anime Expo coverage, Shannon’s photos, as well as a great new feature from the Green Tentacles Convention Finder, Star Trek convention news, and more!

1. LA Weekly Covers Anime Expo 2009

As I mentioned above, Liz Ohanesian and Shannon Cottrell from LA Weekly ventured out to Anime Expo last weekend. Here is the list of articles, all of which provide a great look at the convention:

2. ScareFest Letting Military, Police, Firefighters, EMS, Sherrif, and Corrections Personal in for Free on 9/11

ScareFest is a Kentucky horror convention that is being held September 11 - 13, 2009. In honor of the anniversary of September 11th, all military, police, firefighters, EMS, sheriff, and corrections personal with an ID (or wearing their uniform) will be admitted for free on that day of the convention. Visit the website for more info: http://www.thescarefest.com.

3. Green Tentacles Convention Finder Offers Zip Code Based Ads

Nathan Lilly, creator of the Convention Finder, has just announced a new way for conventions to advertise directly to attendees in their zip code area. It allows conventions to pay their general admission price (free cons pay $0.00) to display ads when people search within 250 miles of the ad’s selected postal code. The ad remains in rotation right up until their event runs. This is technically still in beta, but operational!

4. Creation Announces Gold Weekend Package Selling Out for New Jersey Trek Con

Creation sent out an e-mail yesterday afternoon announcing the “imminent” sell out of their most expensive ticket package: the Gold Weekend Package. They will be sold out and removed from sale by “end of business” on Friday, July 10th (Pacific time). Visit the website for more info, or to buy your tickets.
