Convention Fans

There has been a lot of convention news stories, guest announcements, and goings on lately! I’ve been collecting a great list of links and news blurbs to share with you all. This may be especially useful/interesting to those of you who have plans to attend Comic-Con or Otakon this summer. Okay, here we go!

1. Dollhouse Panel at Comic-Con Will be Super-sized

For those of you who are actually fans of Dollhouse (sorry fans, I hate Eliza Dushku too much to watch), Comic-Con will be showing the mysterious 13th episode that never aired on TV. And guess what? Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku will be there too. And just as a reminder, as this article points out, Dollhouse’s first season will be available on DVD a few days before the convention. It’ll be a great item to have autographed at the con.

2.  Will Hayao Miyazaki Appear at Comic-Con?

That seems to be the million dollar question on a lot of fans’ minds! This article discusses the possibility of this anime legend appearing at the convention in 2009. It speculates that since he premieres his new film and will participate in a Q & A on July 25th in California, that maybe a quick appearance at Comic-Con (happening that same weekend), might be in the cards.

3. Otakon announces four more guests!

This convention has been pumping out the press releases this week! They have just added American voice actor Travis Willingham, manga artist Misako Rocks!, voice actor Crispin Freeman, and director/animator Yutaka Yamamoto. Yamamoto has worked as an animator, storyboard artist, and episode director on several anime TV series including Hare+Guu, Atashinchi, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (one of my personal favorites), and AIR. In 2006, Yamamoto served as series director and writer for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Check out Otakon’s website for more info.

4. Stan Lee to Appear at Pittsburgh Comicon

Okay comic book fans, this news blurb is all for you! ConventionScene.com has posted a press release from the folks at Pittsburgh Comicon, announcing that Stan Lee will be attending the convention! The con is being held September 11, 12, 13 - but Stan will be signing Saturday ONLY. Check out the press release for more.

5. San Japan Announces Third Round of Guests

From the release: “San Japan is proud to announce that voice actors Kyle Hebert and Jonathan Joss will be making their first time appearance at San Japan with the return of Samantha Inoue-Harte. San Japan is also proud to announce the return of popular convention artist Amelie Belcher and the return of cosplay guests CapsuleCorp, Shoeless Cosplay and DigitalDimension Cosplay.” The con is August 14th-16th, 2009 at the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium and El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel.
