The Official Star Trek Convention 2009 - Las Vegas
Creation Entertainment’s Star Trek convention in Las Vegas has always been considered the Star Trek convention to go to. It’s the biggest. It attracts the largest number of (and the most popular of) the Star Trek guests. It’s the most expensive. And for a while it had one of the best locations for a Trek con: the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.
But as I’m sure many of you know, the Star Trek Experience was kicked out of the Hilton last summer. And although it is reopening in stages at another downtown Vegas location, having the 2009 convention at the Hilton just won’t be the same. And yet, Creation Entertainment is still going to hold its big Las Vegas convention there.
As I mentioned, this con does boast one hell of a guest list. The current guest list for the 2009 Las Vegas Star Trek convention includes: Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, Zachary Quinto, Christopher Lloyd, Colm Meaney, Jonathan Frakes, Dominic Keating, Connor Trineer, Robert Beltran, Anthony Montgomery, George Takei, Ethan Phillips, Tony Todd, Michael Dorn, Alice Krige, John Billingsley, Cirroc Lofton, Robert Picardo, Tim Russ, Rene Auberjonois, Roxanne Dawson, Marc Alaimo, Armin Shimerman, Jeffrey Combs, Max Grodenchik, Suzie Plakson, Linda Park, Gary Graham, Robert O’Reilly, J. G. Hertzler, Casey Biggs, and more.
Phew. See what I mean? Just a word of warning: not every guest will be there for the entire weekend. The website has a list of who will be there which days.
Now, I also mentioned this con is expensive. That is an understatement. It is outrageously expensive. But even more baffling than the fact Creation can and will charge this much, is that they have already sold out of the most expensive package (which costs over $600!). The next best package is the Gold Weekend Package, which is $369. General admission tickets went on sale yesterday, with day passes as low as $30, but that doesn’t include anything. Looking at the list of how much the autographs and photos cost may make you cry a little, so I don’t recommend it unless you have tissues near by.
There are some special events lined up, but be prepared to pay extra for them. There is a Champagne Happy Hour with Resistance to Bingo is Futile, which is $85. There’s also a Klingon Feast which is $169.
If you have your heart set on attending, you should strongly consider buying that Gold Package now. With the new Star Trek movie out in theaters, and Nimoy and Quinto on the guest list, expect the con to be selling out.
