Published by dreadpiraterose at 9:22 am under Misc Edit This

Bob Picardo in UNIVERSAL SIGNS (image used with permission)Bob Picardo, known for his roles on Star Trek: Voyager and Stargate Atlantis, is going to be making an appearance at the world premiere of the independent film Universal Signs here in Philadelphia on May 30th, 2009. He has a supporting role in the movie, and he will be signing autographs and taking pictures at the event (see the website for details). Although she won’t be at this premiere, the film does star another science fiction actress you all may remember: Sabrina Lloyd of Sliders.

I know that my boyfriend and I are planning to attend this event. Bob Picardo is a wonderfully talented actor, and we’ve been fortunate to have met him before at a convention. This is a great opportunity to see some of his non-science fiction work, and meet him in person if you haven’t yet. Below is the official release about the film’s premiere:

Film Reviews:

“Universal Signs will leave you with a warm feeling while also making you think twice about the way you communicate with those around you. Through a unique combination of music and subtitles, Ann Calamia delivers a CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU’VE EVER SEEN.” ~ Walter Kealey, Philadelphia Film Festival

“Subtitles are an essential part of the story in Universal Signs.  Rather than merely translate what the actors are saying, they give viewers an INTIMATE WINDOW into a UNIQUE SUBCULTURE.” ~ Chris Marlowe, The Hollywood Reporter

“…A perfect reminder that a well-timed word, whether spoken or unspoken can be all you need to FALL IN LOVE.  Just as you are likely to be by the end of Universal Signs.” ~ Erik Childress, Chicago Film Critics Association

“It takes a POWERFUL, even EXTRAORDINARY movie to overcome silence.” ~ Stacy Briggs, The Intelligencer

“The lack of spoken words accentuates the camera movements, the color, the music – elements that often go unnoticed in other films but are center stage on this one, giving it more depth and intensity. The movie’s universal themes do not distinguish between a hearing or deaf audience – the EMOTIONAL RESPONSE is the same.” ~ Paola Segnini, Hearing Health Magazine
