Costume Con 27 - A Convention for Costumers

Published by dreadpiraterose at 2:36 am under Costuming, Upcoming Conventions Edit This

Costume Con 27 Official LogoAs I mentioned in my post the other day, I will be attending Costume Con 27 in Maryland the first weekend of May. This is a wonderfully unique convention, and I really hope some of you will have an opportunity to to attend. It is held at the Crowne Plaza Baltimore-North hotel, which is in Timonium, Maryland (just north of Baltimore), on May 1 - 4, 2009.

Costume Con, unlike a lot of other conventions, doesn’t focus on big celebrity guests, autographs, and such. Rather, it “is dedicated to the art and craft of costumes and costuming of all types.” The convention is filled with great discussions and workshops, which focus on subjects such as beaded embroidery, color theory, fangs, feathers, an intro to cosplay, makeup, unusual materials, wigs, wings, and so much more. There will also be a vendor area, a single pattern contest, a doll contest, and multiple costume contests. You can see the programming list here, and more about the contests/competitions here.

In terms of registration for Costume Con 27, an adult weekend pass will cost $100. A child’s weekend pass will cost $40. There are single day passes available for $45 (full day), and $10 (after 6pm, for access to the masquerade and Con Suite). Payment through PayPal is available. Check out the official site for more payment options and information.

I highly recommend taking a look at the Visual Archive for Costume Con. This is what made me want to attend this convention so badly. I have been to dozens of conventions, and seen some really spectacular costumes. But the caliber of the costume work at Costume Con rivals anything I have ever seen at another convention. I know I’m looking forward to picking the brains of some of these extremely talented people. (Maybe now I’ll finally make some progress on my steampunk costume!)

So, if you’re into cosplay, costuming, makeup, wigs, etc., then Costume Con is the convention for you! You can expect to see a ton of pictures, a full con report, and maybe even some video posted here on Convention Fans a few days after the con!
