Creation’s 17th Annual Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit 2009

Published by dreadpiraterose at 2:32 am under Upcoming Conventions Edit This

Charisma Carpenter - Cordelia Chase from Angel and Buffy the Vampire SlayerOne of Creation Entertainment’s biggest conventions of the year is their Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit. It is always packed with media guests from a variety of fandoms, including Star Trek, Stargate, Twilight, and Buffy/Angel. The Grand Slam con is held in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott on May 1 - 3, 2009.

One of the advantages to a Creation convention, is the great guest list they manage to assemble. The guest list for the 2009 Grand Slam includes Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager’s 7 of 9), John Noble (Fringe’s Dr. Bishop), Linda Hamilton (Terminator’s Sarah Connor), Michelle Forbes (Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Ensign Ro), Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1’s Samantha Carter), Charisma Carpenter (Buffy/Angel’s Cordelia), Kellan Lutz (Twilight’s Emmett Cullen), Nicki Clyne (Battlestar Galactica’s Cally), Michael Welch (Twilight’s Mike Newton), and Ashley Greene (Twilight’s Alice Cullen).

Jeri Ryan - Star Trek: Voyager’s 7 of 9Tickets for the Grand Slam are still available, but the big Gold Weekend Package is sold out. What is available (as of this posting anyway) are the Preferred Weekend Package ($259), Preferred Single Day Tickets ($45-$55), the General Admission Weekend Package ($73), and General Admission Single Day Tickets ($25). You can read more about tickets for the convention on Creation’s website.

Autograph tickets are available for the guests, but it is important to point out that Jeri Ryan and Linda Hamilton’s autograph tickets “[are] not part of any package and must be ordered separately.”

Jeri Ryan is charging a whopping $70 for her autograph. These celebrities and their exorbitant fees and autograph charges are starting to really get to me. George Takei doesn’t even charge that much for an autograph. And Jeri Ryan pulls a semi-regular acting paycheck (she’s on screen a hell of a lot more often than George is anyway). Does she really need to be charging her fans $70 a pop, when the con is already getting them for $259? Oh wait, I get it. It’s probably because she’s counting on some drooling fan boys to gladly turn over that kind of money for some one-on-one time with her.

Ashley Greene - Twilight’s Alice CullenAnyway

There will be a special “Salute to Twilight” series of events on Sunday of the convention (there was a whole convention called Salute to Twilight, sponsored by Creation, back in February 2009). There is also a planned Star Trek Products/Projects Update from CBS Consumer Products on Saturday of the convention (tentative). There will also be appearances by the guest stars throughout the convention.

If you attend Creation’s Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit, be sure to come back and post your photos, videos, and convention reports! And someone be so kind as to let me know if 60 seconds with Jeri Ryan is worth $70, okay?
