Convention Profile: AccioCon 2009 (Robert isn’t coming to this one either)
It’s a teenager’s dream event: Harry Potter and Twilight together in one fandom convention! If you’re an Orlando HP or Twi fan, you have probably already heard about AccioCon. In fact, I’m willing to bet you’ve had your heart set on attending this convention for months now.
For those not in “the know,” AccioCon is an Orlando-based Harry Potter/Twilight convention, happening April 3 - 5, 2009 at the Holiday Inn International Drive Resort. The convention features guests from both fandoms, but the “big stars” are all from Twilight.
The following Twilight guests are currently scheduled to appear at AccioCon: Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Edi Gathegi (Twilight). Musical guests include: The Whomping Willows, Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills, The Remus Lupins, Hawthorn & Holly, Witherwings, Fred Lives, House of Black, Marked as His Equal, and an appearance by Brian of Draco and the Malfoys. Other guests include Kevin Connolly (voice actor), Hannah Lees (cosplayer), and the creators of the “Wizardrockumentary”.
(Surprise surprise…Robert Pattinson isn’t on the guest list for this convention either. Sorry!)
Memberships are available online, but there is a “fee” attached to each, ranging from $.99 to $2.12 per ticket. The following prices do NOT include this fee (you’ll have to do the math yourself): 3-day weekend pass is $85.00; Friday Pass is $30.00; Saturday Pass is $35.00; Sunday pass is $30.00. There are “add on” ticket options for the AccioCon Prom and photo op ($5.00 and $20.00 respectively). There are also discounted passes available for children. You can make your purchase online, or find more info about tickets, by clicking here.
If you need accommodations, you can get a room at the host hotel for $99.00 a night (plus taxes and fees). Of course, it IS Orlando, which means you can find a ton of hotels near by (and for a lot cheaper) if need be.
Some of the events at AccioCon include a Vampires vs Werewolves event (which apparently spans all 3 days of the con), a fan film contest, Twilight Guest Photo Ops, numerous debate panels, a “Forks High School Prom,” a silent auction, a Sorting Hat ceremony, a “Night at the Wrockbury” concert, a costume contest, and much much more.
A few other things worth noting about AccioCon:
- The Twilight guests are charging for their autographs
- No real weapons may be carried around the convention area. No real guns, no real knives, etc.
- The convention is billed as “family friendly”
- There is some parking at the host hotel, “but it goes very quickly” according to organizers
- Volunteers are not currently needed for events but organizers ARE looking for people with previous convention security and liaison experience
You can find more information on the official website. As always, if you end up attending this con, be sure to comment and tell us all how it went! You can read more convention profiles here, including those for TwiCon and Azkatraz.

I live in Orlando and love HP, so i sort of want to go. But I hate Twilight so much, and it’s $35.00 for Saturday only…no thanks.
I like how they have a “Twilight vs. Harry Potter” panel. How do you think THAT will go?
Ashley Greene won’t be there anymore either. Edi Gathegi cancelled a long time ago, but he is scheduled for another Twilight convention in Orlando May 8-10 called Eyecon. This convention will also have Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Cullen).
