Con Vids: Anthony Daniels is a Really Good Sport

I adore Anthony Daniels (C-3PO from Star Wars, in case he isn’t a household name in your family).  I was browsing videos from a Star Wars Celebration convention, and found this incredibly charming video of Anthony and a gentleman named Chris Bartlett (the one dressed as C-3PO). The expression on Anthony’s face when he sees Bartlett’s C-3PO is pretty funny (especially when he teases him about being too tall). However, the best part is when Mike Senna’s R2-D2 shows up. Watch as Anthony starts ordering the R2-D2 around and having a conversation with him! It’s absolutely priceless.

Man, I love conventions. More than that? I love celebrity guests who are good sports, and Anthony is a good sport if I ever saw one.

Holy New York Comic Con Updates Batman!

NYCC LogoIf Joss Whedon is still your master, you may want to consider getting yourself to New York Comic Con. He’s now officially listed as a guest, and he will premiering his new television series, Doll House. (But don’t get too attached. I’m sure Fox will cancel it as soon as possible.) Whedon is scheduled to sign autographs on Sunday of the convention.

The cast of Fringe will also be attending. I happen to love that show, which means it is also doomed to cancellation. Thanks for turning me into a pessimist, Fox. You suck.

The convention has also announced an increased gaming presence, no doubt spurred by the appearance of “Gabe” and “Tycho” from the famous web comic, Penny Arcade.

Some of the prominent companies and the games to be featured at NYCC include (taken right from the press release):

Yes, Undead Warlocks Are That Cool. Everyone is Dying to Join Them.

Holly Conrad’s Undead WarlockI’m determined to make the rounds, fellow World of Warcraft players, and interview a costumer of every class in the game at some point in this blog’s future. I’ve already interviewed a Blood Elf Priest, and an Undead Rogue, and now I’ve found myself an Undead Warlock (ok, I technically interviewed a succubus too, even if it isn’t its own class). And no, I’m not just interviewing Horde characters because I play Horde (”for the horde!”). If you happen to have an Alliance costume, feel free to contact me and I will gladly start evening this up!

This amazing Warlock costume is brought to you by Holly Conrad, who entered the costume in the Blizzcon 2007 costume contest and came away with an honorable mention. She was nice enough to give me the details on how she crafted the incredible armor pieces for her costume.

Fanboys, Trekkies, and Galaxy Quest - Do They Make Fans Look Bad?

Fanboys Movie PosterI have quite frequently told people that Galaxy Quest is one of the best Star Trek movies never made. I can quote it frontwards and backwards. I think it’s hysterical. Furthermore, I’ve seen both Trekkies documentaries, and I cannot wait to go see the movie Fanboys when it opens on February 6th. Is it wrong that I enjoy these movies? Even though the fans featured in each of these films are usually redeemed in the end, there are plenty of pot shots taken, plenty of jokes made at their (our?) expense.

For example, in Galaxy Quest, Justin Long’s character approaches Tim Allen’s at a “Galaxy Quest” convention, asking him all these technical questions about the ship from the show, acting as though it was real. Then there’s the overweight fan wearing a bad prosthetic head piece that greats Alan Rickman’s character by doing an alien salute and quoting the show.
