Convention Profile: Naruto Trek 2009
Yes, there really is convention called “Naruto Trek.” It’s a convention for fans of both Star Trek and the anime series, Naruto. It is taking place March 27 - 29, 2009 at the Sheraton Suites Cypress Creek Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The convention is in its second year, and boasts a pretty impressive guest list for such a young con.
Currently scheduled to appear at Naruto Trek 2009:
Star Trek - Walter Koenig (Chekov), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), James Cawley (fan series Star Trek New Voyages/Phase II), Morgan Sheppard (tons of Trek roles), and BarBara Luna (Marlena Moreau)
Naruto - Maile Flanagan (Naruto Uzumaki), Yuri Lowenthal (Sasuke Uchiha), Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (director, Naruto: The Movie), Tom Gibis (Shikamaru Nara), and Tara Platt (Temari)
It’ll cost you $30 for the weekend if you pre-register, and $35 if you wait to buy at the door. Single day passes are $20, regardless of which day you attend (same price whether you buy at the door or in advance). Children under the age of 10 are free with a paying adult. If you want to attend the “Meet and Greet Cocktail Party,” you’ll need to purchase a special ticket, which is $20 a person.
As reported by the organizers, “the Naruto Trek Convention has negotiated substantial savings on hotel accommodations with the Sheraton Suites Cypress Creek hotel!” For all guests who book a room for 2 or more nights during the convention, you’ll receive one (1) complimentary 3-day full weekend pass to the convention. That’s a pretty great deal (and something more cons are offering these days). You can read more about the special hotel discounts here.
Naruto Trek will be offering screenings of various episodes of Star Trek and Naruto, as well as films featuring actors from the guest list. There will also be an artists’ corner and a dealer room.
You can read more about the convention at the official website.
As always, if you attend, be sure to comment with your feedback about the convention!

Naruto fans and Star Trek fans together in the same place for an entire weekend? Wow… making a note to not be in Florida around that time.
I can’t believe I just bought 4 tickets for our family, plus for all of us to attend the Naruto luncheon. I am NOT into this kind of thing AT ALL. My kids are beyond thrilled, so that makes it all worth it.
Yeah I went to the convention. It was so awesome! It was the best thing to ever happen in my life since anime coming into my life. It took forever to convince my parents to pay for it and take me! But it was so cool, I made new friends, and I had a great time! Naruto Trek pwns!
