Convention Profile: Cryptic ConFusion 2009
I have seen some interesting programming at conventions before. I’ve seen the strange. The unique. The weird. I have never, however, come across a panel quite like the one scheduled for this Friday, January 23rd, at Cryptic ConFusion. It’s called “BadKitty’s Kissing School” and here’s the official description:
“Have you ever been kissed? Do you want to be kissed again at some point? Do you know the difference between a sensual kiss, a loving kiss, and a sexual kiss? Do you want hints and techniques to try out on your prospective kissing partner? If so, join the infamous BadKitty for BadKitty’s Kissing School. Bring your own chapstick!”
As a side note, attending such an event would put you in direct violation of tip #6 from my article, “Keeping the Con Crud at Bay: 6 Tips for Staying Healthy at Conventions.” Violate it at your own risk.
I suppose I should at least tell you how to get there, just in case you’re curious. Cryptic ConFusion is being held THIS weekend at the Detroit-Troy Marriott in Detroit, Michigan. Tickets will be $45 at the door if you’re an adult, $35 for students, and $25 for kids (although I’m not so sure about bringing the kids to this one…). This convention does feature a con suite, a room that is stocked with drinks and snacks 24/7. Yay for the con suite!
In case the Kissing School event doesn’t fully entice you, here is a sampling of some of the other programming events: an Airbrush Body Painting Demonstration, Pirate Grog Tasting, an Open Filk Circle, something called “Smut and Nothing But Smut,” Fanfiction 101, No-Sew Costuming, and much much more.
All-in-all, this sounds like an eclectic convention with a wide variety of unique programming you won’t find elsewhere. Hey Dragon*con programmers? Can WE get a Pirate Grog Tasting event? Please?
