Convention Profile: IKKiCON 2009
It’s back to Texas for another anime convention, this time in Austin! That’s right, Ikkicon is quickly approaching! It is being held at the The Hilton Austin, February 6-8. The cut off date for room reservations is January 6, so if you want a room you better act fast.
There’s still time to snatch up tickets for just $35 if you pre-register before January 16! There is also an option to upgrade a standard badge to VIP status for $30 more, which gets you early access to the dealer room, a pizza party with the guests, a chance to win a Nintendo Wii, and “first in line” privileges. For more information on tickets and ordering online, check out their website.
Speaking of guests, here’s the line up so far (as always, guest lists are subject to change):
Musical Guests - Last Stop Tokyo, Peelander Z, Kristine Sa and The Slants
Industry Guests - Derek Stephen Prince, Todd Haberkorn, Caitlin Glass, Chris Bevins, Carrie Savage, Clarine Harp, Brett Weaver, Wendy Powell, Jamie Marchi, J. Shanon Weaver, Chris Patton, Chris Ayres, Kyle Hebert, Hannah Alcorn, Carli Mosier, Jessica Boone, Jan Scott Fraizer, Samantha Inoue Harte and Josh Grelle
Special Guest - Jason David Frank (Power Rangers)
Artists - Tony Salvaggio, Amelie Belcher, Matt Herms and Michael Terracciano
If that wasn’t enough to get you out to this con, there are plenty of cool events and activities to tempt you! There will a bunch of contests, including Anime Idol, an Anime Music Video (AMV) contest, the Anime Poetry Slam, and a dance contest. Ikkicon is also playing host a launch party for the next Magic: The Gathering set, Conflux. There will be a sanctioned sealed tournament featuring the new expansion, and there will be drafting over the weekend. There will also be a dealer room, cosplay, and panel discussions.
To find out more, go ahead and take a look at the official Ikkicon website. There you can find links to register online, download volunteer forms, and get plenty of other details about this Austin anime convention.
As always, if you’re attending the con, report back with feedback and pictures! They could be featured in an upcoming blog entry!
