Convention Profile: Creation’s 14th Annual Xena Convention
Attention Xena fans! If you’re in the Los Angeles area, or willing to travel there, Creation Entertainment has an upcoming Xena convention you may be interested in! The convention is being held January 30 - February 1, 2009, at the LAX Marriott (the same location as Anime Los Angeles 2009).
If you’ve had a look at the promotional materials for Creation Entertainment’s 14th Annual Xena convention, you can see that Lucy Lawless (Xena herself) is displayed quite prominently. However, that seems a bit misleading. Ms. Lawless will be making an appearance at the convention, but she’s not signing autographs, she’s not offering her presence for the celebrity photo-op, she’s not in the Celebrity Cabaret, and she’s not even attending the panel about her own upcoming movie, Bitch Slap.
Granted, Lucy will be doing a performance at The Roxy, which is being billed as an event in conjunction with the convention. She’s also appearing at a panel or something with her main co-star on Sunday. But come on Lucy! You can’t do a single fan photo-op, or even sign a few autographs? It’s not like you aren’t getting a super awesome cut of the profits… ahem… anyway…
Luckily, the convention does offer an impressive line up of Xena guests that will be participating in convention activities. The line up includes Renee O’Connor, Jacqueline Kim, Jennifer Sky Band, Tony Todd, Michael Hurst, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, and quite a few others. You can see the entire list here. (And for the record, Tony Todd is an exceptionally cool guy.)
Creation is presenting a lot of really great activities for attendees. Being that they are a big convention company, they are able to offer some events that are unique to this particular convention. For example, the aforementioned Celebrity Cabaret. However, if you didn’t buy the Gold or Preferred pass, you’ll have to pay extra to see it.
Other convention events include a Xena video contest, a dessert centerpiece contest, a costume contest, a panel discussion about Lucy’s movie Bitch Slap, autograph signings, and celebrity photo-ops. However, some of these activities require a certain level of con membership, or you have to pay an extra fee.
Here are the ticket prices for the convention: Gold Weekend Passes - Sold Out; Preferred Weekend Pass - $319 (includes a lot of extras and such, so read up on it here); General Admission Weekend Pass - $89 (no autographs included for this level and lower); Single Day Reserved Pass - $39 (Fri), $49 (Sat), $79 (Sun); Single Day General Admission Pass - $30 (Fri/Sat), $50 (Sun). Children 6 years to 12 years old will be admitted with adults for the price of $15 (available at the door only) for general admission. Children under 6 years old will be complimentary in general admission sections.
One thing about Creation conventions worth noting: “Creation Entertainment has a strict company policy not to ‘oversell’ [their] conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place.”
You can read more about the convention on Creation’s website. Say hello to Lucy for me…if you see her!
