Convention Profile: Mizu Con 2008
Chances are, if you’re an anime fan living up north somewhere, the idea of traveling down to Miami for a brand new anime convention in December is probably pretty appealing. The operators of Mizu Con are counting on that sentiment, as they are set to debut this new convention December 27-29th in Miami, Florida.
The convention is being held at the Hyatt Regency Miami, where organizers have also put together a fantastic hotel + convention badge package. When you book a room at the host hotel for two consecutive nights, you can get one 3-day pass to the convention for free. The nightly convention rate for a room at the Regency is $145, plus tax. Additionally, a free DVD is being offered for each night you stay at the hotel. For details about this special DVD deal, check out their website.
I have to say, that a free pass for staying at the host hotel is a pretty sweet deal, and not something I’ve come across very often. Throwing in free DVDs on top of that is even better.
If you decide not to take advantage of the hotel + badge deal, an adult three day pass for the weekend will cost you $45.00 at the door, or $35.00 if you order online before December 13th (better hurry!). One and two day adult passes are also available, as are special rates for children ages 4-11. You can see all of the rates on their website.
Mizu Con has a pretty standard line up of activities and events: a dealer’s room, a video room, costume contest, artist alley, and a game room. Additionally, the convention will be hosting some well known anime voice actors, such as Brina Palencia, Vic Mignogna, and artist-turned voice actor Doug Smith (Golden Boy), to name a few. ADR Director/DVD Producer David Williams will also be in attendance, representing ADV Films.
